Motherhood

Since May is the month in which we celebrate Mother's Day, and I've heard the advice given to new writers is to "write what you know", I figured the first "week" of themed posts should be on the topic of "Motherhood."  18 years ago the topic would have been "Lipstick."  I guess I've changed a bit over the years.

Basically, this topic is going to cover the various ups and downs and special moments one may experience when taking on this dubiously illustrious job.  I don't feel that my views are necessarily unique, but I do realize that they may come across as uncaring, sarcastic, and perhaps bordering on resentful.

I do not try to paint a pretty picture in my posts, but I do use sarcasm and humor in an attempt to communicate my point.  In this world of technology and Facebook postings, I find that often, people are not completely honest with themselves (and others).  It's easy to present yourself to the world in a manner which doesn't quite communicate the entire picture.  I think there's a lot of Photoshop Fail out there when it comes to complete honesty.

In this particular topic, I'm here to dispel the rumor that Motherhood is all flowers and butterflies.  It's not.  It's poopy diapers and sleepless nights and questioning your sanity and feeling not-so-pretty at times and wishing for Calgon moments that never materialize.  I'm hoping, though, that you can read between the lines and see that there is a caring and appreciative person behind the rants.  These posts are about being honest about how things really are, being able to laugh at the bad moments, realizing it's okay to not like your kids at times, and about cutting yourself some slack.
